It typically takes me a long time to think of a truly thoughtful gift for someone. I want it to be beautiful, useful, and personal - a way for the recipient to feel seen by me. The most recent gift I gave was a framed four-leaf clover to a neighbor and friend. I found the clover in her yard and she’s embarking on a journey that I hope a little clover can inspire some good vibes for. That was a well-timed moment of inspiration, and I was so excited about it, however when milestone holidays come up, I’m often sort of lacking in ideas.
I had some of my real-life girlfriends asking me about gifts for their moms and mom friends who garden, and after sending them a ton of links, decided you may enjoy this too.
Consider this my list of favorite things that are beautiful and useful for gardening. It’s all linked in one place for you (HERE), but I wanted to explain a few favorites.
1. Kitchen Garden Living Book
Of course, my book Kitchen Garden Living is at the top because it’s literally the perfect guide for someone with little kids who also wants to garden. There are notes and ideas in every chapter about gardening with kids, ideas for seasonal living, and also all the info on keeping a veggie garden alive and replacing the produce aisle. Also, it’s on sale for $14 on Amazon right now which is OVER HALF off.
2. Beautiful Hats
Gardeners and hats are like peas and carrots - the perfect match. I always recommend a wide-brimmed straw hat for absolutely anyone. Worst-case scenario, they hang it on the wall as decor. I love this new bucket style - it’s very Audrey Hepburn-esque (she was a gardener of course!).
3. Harvest baskets
Whether filled or empty, a basket is an always-needed, most-wanted item. I swear the love of baskets is a universal love by all gardeners. There are many many styles and some that can be personalized, but I love the low-edged style like this.
4. Tools
You can never have enough tools. Pretty shears and a matching set are favorites of mine. Quality is something that matters here, just to note.
5. Cute Jammies
We love a matching jammie set, and one that gives a nod to our love of gardening …Yes, please. I have a few other options listed when you click the link - I just love all of these.
6. Terra Cotta Pots
Pots are a close second to harvest baskets when it comes to something all the gardeners love. These scallop-edge pots are so cute and you could even gift them with a fun herb planted. Don’t worry, gardeners love to get plants!
7. The BEST lotion ever
This goat’s milk lotion from Wild Oaks Farms is the best. I know because I trialed about seven different lotions and this one left my hands so soft yet not slimy. The scent, “cashmere” is very gentle and yet smells sophisticated.
8. Outdoor incense
I found this to be so cute and fun - a great hostess gift too. Outdoor incense is unique and unusual, perfect for spring and summer porch-sitting season.
Okay my loves, I hope you’ve gotten some great ideas! Some advice for you regardless, as passed on to me from a friend: never suppress a generous thought.
